CROWDED HOUSE.

Crowded House makes pop in which a clear melody can contain unexpected shadows. Neil Finn’s songs sound accessible, but a chord change or small lyrical twist can suddenly shift the feeling. The band keeps that movement natural: vocals, guitars, and rhythm give each other space. The arrangement doesn’t need to be grand to have a lasting impact.

Woodface on vinyl showcases that songwriting art within a complete album sequence. The Very Very Best of Crowded House offers a broader selection as an introduction. Also listen to the harmonies beneath the main melody; that is often where a chorus acquires its distinctive color. A LP lets the quiet and exuberant songs speak for themselves and keeps the smaller details part of the whole.

It is precisely the smaller transitions that can give an album a different character and reveal why you return to this artist.
