ARTIST STORY
ASHE.
THE NAME BEHIND THE VOICE.
A song by Ashe can start like a confession and end as something you want to sing out loud. From Moral of the Story to her collaboration with FINNEAS, she writes about loss, longing, and daring to choose again. Behind the stage name lies a songwriter who is showing more clearly than ever who she truly is.

There are only four letters in the name Ashe. Yet, her first three albums center on her full first name: Ashlyn, Rae, and Willson. Together, they form Ashlyn Rae Willson. It is a simple, beautiful discovery: three records in which an artist gradually reveals more of herself under a short name.
Ashe grew up in San Jose, California. Her grandfather introduced her to music outside the world she mostly listened to at home. Later, she studied songwriting and production at Berklee College of Music. That technical side of songwriting is no footnote to her work. She hears how a melody can contradict a sentence, how a choir of voices can amplify the doubt of a single singer.
WHEN THE STORY CHANGES.
In 2019's Moral of the Story, she looks back on a relationship that didn't work out. The title sounds almost detached, as if a tidy lesson waits at the end of pain. The song does something else: it shows how complicated it is to admit a mistake without belittling yourself for it. FINNEAS contributed to the production. When the song appeared in 2020’s To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, it found a much wider audience.
Their collaboration later took on a new form in Till Forever Falls Apart. Two voices don’t sing the same story simultaneously, but support one another while the world in the song seems to fall apart. That room for a second perspective recurs in their later work.
LEARNING TO TAKE SPACE.
On her 2021 debut album Ashlyn, that personal gaze is given a larger stage. There are piano ballads, theatrical turns, and pop choruses that don’t apologize for their scale. Moral of the Story sits alongside new songs that examine grief from different distances. You hear someone who wants to name feelings precisely, even when the answer changes along the way.
Rae (2022) is both the middle name and a shift in tone. The arrangements are lighter, warmer, and more playful. That doesn't mean all the sharp edges have disappeared. It is precisely the contrast between a cheerful sound and a complicated emotion that makes this music relatable: sometimes you are dancing before you even know exactly what you are trying to let go of.
Afterward, Ashe stepped back from a pace that gave her little room. When she returned in 2024 with Willson, the record sounded like a conversation that only became possible after the outside world fell silent. With this third title, the name is complete. The album doesn't close off a life; rather, it gives her a firmer place in her own story.
ANOTHER VOICE IN THE ROOM.
In 2025, Ashe and FINNEAS formed The Favors. Their album The Dream is a duo effort, not a fourth Ashe solo album. The vocal harmonies carry the songs. Sometimes they sing closely intertwined, at other times you can clearly hear how two people can approach the same feeling differently. Their older collaboration grows here into a band with its own identity.
The project brings her back to something simple: the joy of making music together. Those coming here from Ashe will hear her voice in dialogue. Those arriving via the FINNEAS Story can follow the same songs from the perspective of the producer and songwriter by her side. The encounter makes both artists more clearly visible.
THE NEXT NAME.
The Girl of Your Dreams is scheduled for release as her fourth solo studio album on October 16, 2026. That title alone asks a question: who do others mean when they talk about their ideal woman, and how much of yourself do you have to leave behind for that? The advance single Stop the Wedding! shows that Ashe does not approach the subject as a soft sequel to old heartbreak. She sounds more determined, with room for humor and self-determination.
The record is currently available for pre-order at SJELF. How the full album fleshes out that premise is something we can only judge after its release. An arc is already emerging: from a song looking back at a painful choice to music that asks who gets to make the choices from now on.

HER OWN WAY THROUGH.
Ashe does not turn personal experience into boilerplate advice. She writes precisely enough to let contradiction exist: sorrow can go hand-in-hand with a big chorus, new love with memories that don't disappear. Listen from Ashlyn through Rae to Willson and you hear how a name slowly becomes a voice. What follows next, she chooses herself.
