ARTIST STORY

FINNEAS.

THE QUIET ARCHITECT.

A voice from up close, a piano that leaves room to breathe, and a melody that lingers longer than you expect: FINNEAS knows how much a small gesture can carry. As the brother and creative partner of Billie Eilish, he helped shape a singular pop world. On his solo records, he steps into the spotlight himself, with songs about longing, doubt, and the slow process of learning to let go of control.

THE STORY

Finneas Baird O’Connell grew up in Los Angeles, in a family where music and acting were part of everyday life. Around the age of twelve, he took a songwriting course taught by his mother. Later, he sang and wrote for The Slightlys, a band where ideas didn't need to wait for permission: you try them, play them, and discover what sticks.

With his younger sister Billie Eilish, that creative process took on a different intensity. Their early recordings were born at home. He served as the producer for her 2019 debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?; in 2020, he won the Grammy for Producer of the Year, Non-Classical. Music from a bedroom reaching the biggest stages, without the vocals ever needing to sound distant.

Yet, "the creator behind Billie" is too simple a description. Read Billie's own artist page to follow their collaboration through her music. Her voice and artistic choices aren't just filling in his plan: the partnership is about what they discover together. FINNEAS shared at Berklee how, during the making of her third album, Billie sat at the desk next to him, whereas for the debut, she sang from her bed. Their working process evolved alongside their growth.

HIS OWN SIDE OF THE RECORD.

Under his own name, the mission changes. FINNEAS doesn’t just have to make another voice sound good; he has to carry the words himself. Following the 2019 EP Blood Harmony, his first solo studio album, Optimist, was released in 2021. He wrote and produced all thirteen tracks himself.

The title doesn’t promise a lack of worries. In A Concert Six Months From Now, something mundane — buying concert tickets for someone you love — becomes a small gamble on the future. The Kids Are All Dying juxtaposes personal desires with a restless world. The songs seek space for love while so much seems to be going wrong at the same time.

That is the allure of his solo work. A melody can be clear while the feeling beneath it remains in flux. The production holds everything together, but doesn't have to resolve the uncertainty. You get a sense of grounding, not a ready-made answer.
