TURNSTILE.

Turnstile uses the directness of hardcore as a starting point for an agile band sound. Riffs and rhythmic accents give the songs power, while melodies and other timbres open up new space. The music can shift abruptly yet maintain its momentum. Cohesion is created by the convincing interplay between vocals, guitars, and rhythm section.

Listening to Turnstile on vinyl makes the contrasts within an album part of the experience. A LP gives both short bursts and quieter passages their own place. Also pay attention to the bass and the transitions between the songs: they reveal how different musical ideas remain connected and how a familiar rhythm takes on a different meaning.

A vinyl album gives the songs a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known tracks time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.
