Doe Maar combines light rhythms with phrases that linger longer than you initially expect. The music can be danceable while simultaneously conveying doubt, longing, or daily unrest.

Skunk is a clear entry point to that sound. The bass and rhythmic accents keep the songs moving, while the vocals stay close to everyday spoken language.

Doe Maar makes the Dutch song dance to rhythms in which the bass often takes the lead. The guitars and keyboards provide their brief accents, while the vocals can place a thought almost casually. Beneath the light musical surface, doubt, longing, and sharp observations can continue to rub against each other. It is precisely this combination that makes the songs suitable for playing repeatedly.

A LP demonstrates how the lighter and darker moments reinforce each other. Listen to the bass line before following the lyrics, and then hear how the words move upon it. The record side keeps the album feel intact. A collection offers a different route through the same repertoire; the tracklist shows which choices the offered vinyl edition brings together.

De Beste offers a different route through the repertoire. A compilation album presents the recognizable songs side by side and invites you to return to the original albums afterwards.

The connection to ska lies in the light-footed accents and the space between the beats. Within Dutch pop, Doe Maar demonstrated that Dutch lyrics can sound natural even over such rhythms.

De Dijk places the Dutch song in a different band environment, with more weight placed on soul and horns. Acda en De Munnik restores vocal harmonies and storytelling to their own rightful place.

Read the existing Artist Story for the background of that unique pop language. On the records below, you can follow how directness and musical detail continue to coexist in Doe Maar.
