TOOTS & THE MAYTALS.

Toots & The Maytals combines a strong soul voice with rhythms that leave plenty of room for movement. The vocals can open up a melody broadly, while backing vocals and instruments provide short answers. The songs retain their directness without simplifying the interplay. A familiar pattern gains extra tension through phrasing, accents, and the energy of the performance.

Discovering Toots & The Maytals on vinyl allows you to hear different sides of the repertoire side by side. A LP also gives the quieter moments their own place. Follow the bass, guitar, and backing vocals just as attentively as the lead voice: their relative space determines how a groove works and how much color a compact song can carry.

A vinyl album gives the songs a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known tracks time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.
