What do you hear when two friends decide that bass and drums are enough? With Royal Blood, the answer sounds bigger than the lineup. Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher repeatedly swap places between silence, a low growling riff, and a precise drum beat.

Royal Blood creates a sound with bass, drums, and vocals that seems bigger than the lineup. Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher use rhythm, distortion, and silence to give the songs direction. The riffs are direct, but the music remains interesting due to the alternation between a tight pattern and an unexpected shift in accent.

The debut and How Did We Get So Dark? offer a different entry point than Typhoons or Back to the Water Below. Listening to Royal Blood on vinyl makes those differences audible across an entire album. The LP provides the heavy tracks with their setting and also leaves room for the melodic and rhythmic details between the riffs.

The available versions and the existing artist story for SJELF help to explore the repertoire further. When choosing, pay attention to the exact album edition and product information. Then listen to the interplay between bass and drums: that remains the core of a band that can create a lot of movement with few instruments.

FROM RIFF TO RHYTHM.

On the debut Royal Blood from 2014, the duo immediately pulls you into a track. How Did We Get So Dark? seeks more melody and counterweight. With Typhoons, the same heavy bass takes on a rhythm that almost leads to the dance floor. Back to the Water Below gives the songs breathing room again. That makes the four records together more interesting than four variations on the same riff.

WHAT IS COMING NOW.

The fifth studio album, Dead Company, has been announced for November 13, 2026. The standard record and a colored edition are available for pre-order below; the other four albums have already been released. Check current availability per pressing.

READ AND LISTEN MORE.

The artist story of Royal Blood tells how a duo can sound so broad. Through alternative rock and GARAGE ROCK, you discover two sides of that sound. Also read Nothing But Thieves for another band that uses the tension between silence and volume. Under MORE TO DISCOVER, there are five records that each open a different path from Royal Blood.
