Puff Daddy turned familiar melodies, rap, and R&B into a big pop sound. A look at Sean Combs' records, the people around them, and the context in which we hear them today.

A familiar melody, a heavy beat, and a chorus that sticks in your head after just one listen: many records centered around Puff Daddy reveal their true nature immediately. Sean Combs built his musical reputation on bringing together voices, producers, and recognizable fragments. His own voice is just one part of this. To truly understand the records, one must also listen to the musicians who give the sound depth, from The Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans to Dawn Richard and Kalenna Harper.

Combs was born in 1969 in Harlem. In 1990, he began as an intern at Uptown Records, where he gained experience in the business and creative sides of music. With Bad Boy Entertainment, founded in 1993, he built his own environment for hip hop and R&B. The records by The Notorious B.I.G. and Faith Evans demonstrate how rap verses, melodic vocals, and carefully chosen productions can reinforce each other.
