MGMT.

MGMT regularly allows an attractive pop melody to evolve into something stranger. Synthesizers, distorted sounds, and unexpected transitions give the songs a psychedelic movement. The music can be instantly danceable and then, conversely, move away from a simple song form. That makes the repertoire interesting as album work: the best-known hits serve as an entry point, but do not tell the whole story of a record.

Oracular Spectacular, Congratulations, and Little Dark Age demonstrate different balances between melody, electronics, and adventure. Loss of Life once again offers an album world of its own. On vinyl-LP, you can follow the longer lines and shifts in atmosphere. A brief detail in the production takes on more meaning as you hear what happens before and after.

MGMT records suit listeners who appreciate pop when it also dares to experiment. The connection with Tame Impala and M83 offers further routes from psychedelic production and a broad soundscape.
