Whisper-soft vocals, dark electronics, and the imagination of the theater. LAKSHMI turns a song into a world where you can linger for a moment.

A voice can make a space feel larger by singing softer. That is a beautiful entry point to LAKSHMI. Her music moves between proximity and threat: a melody draws close, while electronics slowly alter the environment. She writes songs, but also thinks in terms of images, movement, and the silence of a theater hall. Anyone looking only for a chorus misses a part of what is happening around it.

Lakshmi Swami Persaud was born in 1993 and attended the Herman Brood Academy. She built her music through performances and the finals of the Grote Prijs van Nederland in 2014. The EPs Come Sin with Me and Sinister were released in 2016, followed by her self-titled debut album in 2017. The term pop noir became a fitting description of the world she created.
