BEHIND THE RECORDS.

THE ARTIST.

DARKSIDE transforms electronics and guitar into a single, slowly changing landscape. Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington connect detailed rhythms with ragged strings, low voices, and sounds that move through space rather than occupying a fixed position.

The groove remains palpable, even when the music seems to be almost falling apart. A small sound can suddenly determine the direction. Listen to the edges of the arrangement: reverb, hiss, and a fading guitar note are just as important here as the melody.

Psychic, Spiral, and Nothing offer different entry points to the same curiosity about sound. With DARKSIDE, a groove can slowly emerge from the mist. The guitar draws a line through the electronics; a sound that initially seemed like background suddenly slides forward. That makes attentive listening just as important as following the beat.

A LP gives the longer passages room to find their direction. Pay attention to the distance between the sounds and to the moment when bass and drums truly coincide. The record sides create natural interruptions in a musical world that likes to keep going. After flipping the record over, you often hear the same sound language again from a different angle.
