CURTIS MAYFIELD.

Curtis Mayfield lets a soft voice carry a powerful message. His falsetto floats above guitar, bass, and rhythm, while the arrangements make room for both melody and tension. The groove makes the music dynamic but does not detract from the meaning of the lyrics. It is precisely the combination of elegance and urgency that gives the songs weight.

Curtis and Curtis Live offer different perspectives on the same musical language on vinyl. The soundtrack Superfly demonstrates how an album can also connect a larger story. Follow the bass and the short guitar accents beneath the vocals. A complete LP gives the quiet observations just as much space as the more emphatic passages and makes clear how music and narrative find direction together.
