BEHIND THE RECORDS.

THE ARTIST.

The Cure is often described as dark. That is understandable, but incomplete. Few bands could make despair sound so grand and then write a pop song that made the whole room smile. It was precisely in that contrast that Robert Smith built one of the most recognizable worlds in modern music.

The Cure allows a pop melody and a dark sound world to coexist closely. Guitars, keyboards, and bass lines can build a recognizable atmosphere, while the vocals keep the story personal. The songs alternate between directness and spatial development. A recurring motif gains meaning as the arrangement slowly changes around it.

Listening to The Cure on vinyl makes the album order part of the experience. A LP allows the more expansive passages to retain their place alongside the compact songs. Also listen to the rhythms and the small instrumental details: they give a recognizable melody a different color each time within the mood of an entire side of the record.

A vinyl album gives the songs a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known tracks time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.
