THE ARTIST.

CAROLE KING.

Carole King places the piano at the center of the story. Her songs can move strongly or almost fall silent, while the vocals remain close. Behind the self-evident melodies lie lines about proximity, change, and the struggle to continue understanding one another.

Tapestry demonstrates just how meaningful a clear song form can be. The piano provides direction, the band responds, and the voice doesn't need to exaggerate anything. As a result, sadness and warmth can coexist. Listen to the subtle transitions between verse and chorus: not only does the melody change there, but often the narrator's attitude does as well.

Carole King makes a melody personal by making it sound simple. Piano and voice give the impression that a song is created instantly, while chords and transitions carefully steer the story. In Tapestry, the writer and the performer meet: the songs have the clarity of pop and the intimacy of someone speaking their own words.

That combination makes Tapestry on LP an album to listen to in its entirety. Its strength also lies in the modest passages between the grand melodies. Hear how the piano prepares a vocal line, or how a response softens the emotion. A release featuring earlier work subsequently offers a different entry point to the same songwriting. The product page indicates which vinyl version corresponds to the record offered.
