CARLY SIMON.

Carly Simon writes songs in which self-confidence and doubt lie close together. Her voice can deliver a sentence effortlessly while simultaneously giving it a second meaning. The arrangements move between pop, folk, and richer studio tones, yet keep the narrative recognizable. The music asks not only who is being sung about, but also who is actually speaking.

Anticipation and No Secrets are inviting LPs to follow that interplay. Listen to how a melody makes room for the lyrics, and how background vocals or an instrumental response can change the tone. On vinyl, the entire album takes on its own rhythm: alongside the well-known songs, the less emphatic tracks can reveal the personal side of her songwriting.

A LP gives the music a beginning, a moment of rest when turning over, and an end. Therefore, listen to an entire side of the record. Which passage sticks in your mind when the familiar track is over? It is precisely the smaller transitions that can give an album a different character and reveal why you return to this artist.
