THE ARTIST.

KHRUANGBIN.

In Khruangbin, every instrument is given space to take over the story. A round bassline, patient drums, and a clear guitar connect funk, soul, and influences from far beyond Texas. The music can play relaxed in the background, but those who listen closer will hear how much is happening between those three players.

BEHIND THE RECORDS.

THE ARTIST.

Khruangbin was formed in Houston with Mark Speer on guitar, Laura Lee Ochoa on bass, and Donald 'DJ' Johnson on drums. Their sound revolves around the relationship between those three voices. The guitar easily grabs attention, but follow the bass line: that is often where the melody lies that gives the song its direction.

Khruangbin creates a band conversation from three clearly recognizable voices: bass, guitar, and drums. The parts give each other space and keep the music constantly in motion. The sound touches on funk, soul, dub, and psychedelic rock, yet remains light enough to hear every subtle shift. A melody can appear almost casually and yet color the entire track.

The albums on vinyl invite attention to that interplay. On Con Todo el Mundo, Mordechai, and A LA SALA, rhythm and atmosphere take on different proportions each time, while the recognizable playing style remains present. A Khruangbin-LP acts as an environment in which you gradually discover more details. The album order makes clear how a subdued groove and a striking guitar line can alternate.

It is precisely on a full record that you hear the music is more than just pleasant background. Follow a bass motif, pay attention to the drum accents, and listen to the way the guitar leaves a melody open. The existing artist story for SJELF provides further context. Below you will find the available vinyl releases, along with directions to genre stories and other artists who connect rhythm, sound, and space in their own unique way.

The debut The Universe Smiles Upon You introduced that open sound world. On Con Todo El Mundo, the interplay takes on a sharper profile. Maria También anchors herself with a guitar motif, while Friday Morning allows the melody to slowly spread out. Funk, soul, and dub are not isolated excursions, but components of a unique style of playing.

With Mordechai, vocals resonate more frequently, without the group suddenly becoming a traditional singer with accompaniment. The voices move along like an additional instrument. The pleasure lies precisely in small shifts: a note that lingers longer, a pause, or an accent in the drums. Our Khruangbin Story traces the influences and albums behind that seemingly simple music, right up to A LA SALA and a look back at their debut.
