THE ARTIST STORYTHE STATE.LEES HET VERHAAL

De Staat makes alternative rock in which rhythm, repetition, and unexpected sounds define the movement. The band from Nijmegen combines heavy riffs and electronics with a keen sense of song structure and imagery.

Torre Florim started with home recordings that became the debut Wait for Evolution (2009). Subsequently, the parts acquired a fixed live lineup. Together with Vedran Mircetic, Jop van Summeren, Rocco Hueting, and Tim van Delft, the project grew into a recognizable band.

Machinery (2011), I_CON (2013), O (2016), and Bubble Gum (2019) further develop the sound. Sweatshop, Witch Doctor, Peptalk, and Kitty Kitty offer different entry points to the same preference for compelling patterns and a distinctive sound.

Red / Yellow / Blue adopted a three-part structure centered on mood. The self-titled De Staat was released by V2 on September 18, 2026. The new music aligns with the visual live concept De Staat Becomes De Staat, with power and group movement as key themes.

Start with Wait for Evolution to hear the origin of the sound. The linked orange LP is a 2021 reissue of the 2009 debut. The ARTIST STORY follows the evolution; the ALBUM STORY discusses the record in detail.

Queens of the Stone Age offers a related listening route via rhythmic riffs and dry tension. Arctic Monkeys is another entry point into guitar music in which a distinct voice makes the band's world recognizable. De Staat maintains its own character within that environment.
