KEEP DIGGING
THE RECORD.

Heroes begins with the driving movement of Beauty and the Beast and Joe the Lion. The title track allows the vocals to slowly rise above a sustained layer of guitar. Later, the music becomes more abstract: Sense of Doubt and Moss Garden give atmosphere and space a leading role.

WHY IT MATTERS.

The sustained breath of the title track takes on more meaning alongside the angular rock of Joe the Lion and the stillness of Moss Garden. Heroes does not showcase just one kind of grandeur. The album is rich precisely because of the transition from full band energy to sections where a few sounds make sufficient space.

BEYOND THE RECORD.

Read our Brian Eno Story for more on this way of working. Low is a fitting next record to further explore the relationship between songs and instrumental space.
