BEHIND THE RECORDS.

THE ARTIST.

Venice creates music in which multi-part vocals take center stage. Acoustic guitars and warm melodies give the harmonies enough room to breathe together.

Venice allows melodies to grow from strong harmonies. The voices can collectively carry a story and then make room for an individual phrase. Guitars and other instruments keep the accompaniment agile without cluttering the vocal dynamics. The music maintains a direct song feel, while subtle harmonic differences lend extra emotional color to a chorus or a quieter passage.

Discovering Venice on vinyl draws attention to the vocal layers within a complete LP. Also listen to the moments when the voices sing less simultaneously: the resulting space allows a melody to emerge differently. The album order makes quieter narratives and larger band moments part of the same flow, so that the instrumental accompaniment also finds its own place in the repertoire.

A vinyl album gives the music a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known pieces time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.

The sound combines the tranquility of folk with the melodic directness of West Coast rock. It is not the biggest solo, but the way the voices complement each other that determines the tension.

On Stained Glass, that approach suits songs you want to hear as a whole. Note the transition from a single voice to the choir: the timbre changes while the melody remains recognizable.

You can read the musical context in folk and rock. Use those stories to further follow the rhythms, instruments, and choices in the songs.

Eagles — Eagles gives a broader rock context to the polyphonic West Coast sound. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young — Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young allows the voices from folk and rock to move together.
