TRAIN.

Train builds songs around clear melodies and a vocal style that quickly establishes a story. The band can keep a passage small and then move into a broad chorus. Guitar, keyboards, and rhythm give the music various colors without losing its pop form. The tension lies in the build-up between a personal phrase and a larger collective moment.

Listening to Train on vinyl also gives the album tracks beyond the well-known singles their place. A LP juxtaposes different moods within the same band sound. Listen to the accompaniment before a chorus: an extra guitar line, backing vocals, or rhythmic accent reveals how the melody is being prepared and how a song changes in scope.

A vinyl album gives the songs a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known tracks time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.
