BEHIND THE RECORDS.

THE ARTIST.

Take That was formed in Manchester in 1990. Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, and Robbie Williams formed the original group, brought together by manager Nigel Martin-Smith. Their first world revolved around performing, dancing, singing, and finding an audience willing to respond to that energy.

Take That gives pop a distinct group character. The voices alternate and come together in choruses that build on recognition and emotion. Ballads and rhythmic songs use different means, but maintain the same preference for clear melodies. The arrangements give each voice space without losing the collective sound.

Discovering Take That on vinyl makes the albums interesting as separate chapters. A LP reveals how lighter moments, poignant stories, and grand choruses alternate. The lesser-known album tracks also deserve attention: they clearly show how vocal harmonies and accompaniment provide more cohesion than a series of standalone singles.

A vinyl album gives the songs a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known tracks time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.

On the debut Take That & Party from 1992, you hear a group that keeps pop and dance music close together. The rhythm is clear, the choruses are expansive, and the voices must remain recognizable even above the noise of a venue. At the same time, with A Million Love Songs, a quieter possibility is already open. A piano and a melody can hold the same attention as a complete choreography.

Gary Barlow's flair for songwriting becomes a key pillar. But Take That is also about differences between people. The light, vulnerable complexion of Mark Owen, the charisma of Robbie Williams, and the presence of Howard Donald and Jason Orange turn five names into a group to which listeners can connect in different ways.
