SZA.

SZA interlocks vocals and rhythm in an agile manner. Her voice can follow a melody and then, almost speaking, choose a different direction. Soul sensibility, pop, and contemporary production give the songs various colors, while the lyrics remain close to personal doubt and longing. The musical form leaves room for unpredictability.

SOS offers a broad entry into that world. Listening to SZA on vinyl makes it appealing to hear the different moods as part of an album. A more extensive edition such as SOS Deluxe: Lana has a different scope than the original LP; the chosen edition determines which songs and which longer arc of tension you actually follow.

On a soul LP, backing vocals, bass lines, and short instrumental responses also deserve attention. Give the record side room to reveal its own progression. You will find the format and version among the available vinyl releases, so you can consciously choose your next record for your collection.
