THE SUPREMES.

The Supremes blends soul and pop in clear melodies and carefully placed vocal harmonies. The lead voice keeps the story in the foreground, while backing vocals and instruments provide concise answers. A rhythm can continue to move smoothly beneath a sustained phrase. It is precisely this balance between directness and detail that gives the songs their recognizable group sound.

Discovering The Supremes on vinyl offers space for the album tracks alongside the well-known hits. A LP presents various arrangements side by side within the same vocal feel. Also pay attention to bass lines, brass, and backing vocals: their timing determines how a chorus kicks in and how much color a restrained vocal line acquires.

A vinyl album gives the songs a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known tracks time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.
