SPEEDY J.

Speedy J treats electronic music as a constantly changing landscape of rhythm and sound. A pattern can start tight and then take on a different color through texture, space, or a new layer. Techno and more atmospheric passages lie close together. The tension often arises from a small shift that only becomes fully noticeable after a few repetitions.

Ginger offers an entry point into that relationship between melody and rhythmic movement. Listening to Speedy J on vinyl gives the build-up of the tracks time. On a LP, the transitions between the pieces also become important, so that a subdued passage and an emphatic beat sound not as separate moments but as parts of the same trajectory.

An electronic LP makes repetition part of a longer listening session. Give a side of the record time and listen to shifts in rhythm and sound. The available vinyl editions show the format and design, so you can choose a suitable record for your own collection.
