RAINBOW.

Rainbow combines Ritchie Blackmore's recognizable guitar with a penchant for dramatic melodies. The riffs can be heavy, but the music also leaves room for an almost narrative build-up. It is precisely the alternation between tension, virtuosity, and a clear chorus that makes the band appealing to fans of hard rock on vinyl.

Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Rising are strong gateways to his studio work. The early collaboration with Ronnie James Dio gives those records a distinct character, in which guitar and vocals reinforce each other. A full LP demonstrates better how a subdued passage paves the way for an extended solo or a grand climax.

The live releases offer yet another perspective on the repertoire. A concert recording does not necessarily tell the same story as the studio album, even when the titles are familiar. Therefore, compare the available vinyl records and listen to the space the band gives to improvisation and instrumental elaboration on stage.
