BEHIND THE RECORDS.

THE ARTIST.

Muse plays with the scale of rock: a piano becomes a climax, a riff a backdrop, and a voice an extra instrument. The theatricality works best when the songs deserve that space.

Muse creates rock in which a riff, a piano melody, and electronic production can all play a leading role. The vocals frequently seek a major release, while the accompaniment builds tension with sharp rhythms and broad layers of sound. Beneath that surface, there is a strong focus on contrast. A restrained passage lends more weight to the following chorus, and an instrumental section can steer a song in a different direction.

Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry, Absolution, and Black Holes and Revelations showcase different album worlds. Later titles place yet other emphases on rhythm and production. On vinyl LP, you can follow the band's evolution and hear the cohesion within a single record. A renewed mix, such as a Remixx release, is distinguished from the original album version.

The existing Muse story and the story about Showbiz remain linked to the relevant vinyl records in SJELF. Via Radiohead and Royal Blood, you can discover additional forms of tension and band sound. The product pages display the available LP editions and the listening links for the selected albums.

Absolution is a solid entry point into that tension; Origin of Symmetry: Remixx gives a familiar album a new sound. Later records also demonstrate how the relationship between electronics and guitar shifts.

The artist story of Muse follows the band through those shifts. Alternative rock explains the sharp edge, and progressive rock the enjoyment of larger musical forms.

Radiohead and Pink Floyd build long arcs of tension in different ways. Queen seeks the theatrical, Depeche Mode the electronics, and Metallica the physical power of the riff.
