LCD SOUNDSYSTEM.

A piano figure keeps recurring. The drums persist, the vocals become more personal, and somewhere along the way, a dance number turns into a conversation about aging. LCD Soundsystem can do that without stopping the music. James Murphy writes about doubt and connection while the band holds the momentum. You can think and dance at the same time.

BEHIND THE RECORDS.

THE ARTIST.

LCD Soundsystem keeps a dance rhythm flowing while the emotional stakes of a song steadily rise. James Murphy can sing matter-of-factly about doubt, memory, or the desire to belong, while the band makes room for a repeating bass line and subtle changes in the drums. The tension lies in the duration: a passage gains meaning because it keeps moving just a little longer than you expect.

Sound of Silver, This Is Happening, and American Dream reveal different relationships between song and groove. Electric Lady Sessions offers its own perspective on the interplay, while self-titled album provides a different entry point. On a full record, it becomes clear how a direct opening, a long, build-up song, and a subdued moment together determine the rhythm of the listen.

LCD Soundsystem on vinyl aligns with that focus on development. A LP lets a track take its time; listen to the extra hit on the hi-hat or the keyboard part that only becomes apparent later. With SJELF, you will find the existing artist story and the available vinyl albums with their performances. This allows you to move from the story to the right record and experience the coherence of the album yourself.

Losing My Edge from 2002 is a curious introduction. The narrator has heard a lot, seen a lot, and above all, has many reasons to fear that someone else has become more interesting. The humor works because there is genuine insecurity underneath. Murphy does not turn musical knowledge into a safe position, but rather something with which you can also get in your own way.

That attitude suits the music. LCD Soundsystem originated in New York and brought with them an extensive knowledge of records, but used it to forge new connections. There is punk in the playing style, disco in the patience of the groove, and electronic music in the repetition. The songs do not need to confine themselves to any one of those worlds.
