THE FRAY.

The Fray allows a melody to grow from piano, voice, and a clear band sound. The songs can start small and slowly move towards a broader chorus. Throughout, the vocals maintain a personal tone, even when the arrangement takes up more space. The tension lies in the difference between a direct narrative and a collective musical gesture.

Discovering The Fray on vinyl gives the quieter album tracks a place alongside the well-known songs. A LP preserves the alternation between restrained passages and grander melodies. Pay attention to the accompaniment as well: a piano pattern, guitar part, or rhythmic accent can change the direction of a song before the chorus fully opens up.

A vinyl album gives the songs a fixed order and a tangible place in your collection. Give the lesser-known tracks time as well, and follow the transitions within a side of the record.
