EVA CASSIDY.

Eva Cassidy gives existing songs a new intimacy. Her voice can be clear and powerful, but often prioritizes the meaning of a line. Folk, jazz, blues, and soul come together in a style of singing that allows a song to retain its own space.

Listen to her phrasing. A slight slowing down or a softer onset can change the direction of a familiar melody. The accompaniment supports this movement, ensuring that even quiet passages retain their tension.

Eva Cassidy gives a song its own direction through the way she treats a melody. A line can start quietly and then be given more space, without losing intimacy. The accompaniment leaves much to the voice, but a guitar or piano can provide an important response. It is precisely this subtle interplay that makes her interpretations interesting to follow attentively.

Eva Cassidy on vinyl invites you to let the performance take precedence over song recognition. On LP, various melodies and moods are grouped together in a chosen sequence. Listen to a restrained passage before the vocals open up. Check the recordings and lineup associated with each release; that context helps you discover the music further.

Her records demand attention to the performance itself. A live recording or a carefully curated collection reveals different facets of the same voice. Not every release contains the same versions; the tracklist helps to select the desired listening experience.
