CANDY DULFER.

Candy Dulfer places the saxophone right in the groove. Its tone can be sharp and open, but also compact enough to fit as an extra rhythmic voice between the bass and drums. Jazz, funk, and pop meet in music where the joy of playing is immediately audible. A solo doesn't need to stop the band: the rhythm keeps going.

Anyone listening to her LPs side by side will hear how flexible that approach is. Sometimes a melody immediately grabs attention, sometimes the bass line in particular carries the track. On vinyl, give the accompaniment space as well; the subtle responses between saxophone and band make the music lively. The available compilation records offer a broad entry point, while the individual albums leave one musical world open for longer.
