CREAM.

Cream allows three musicians to claim space simultaneously while still holding each other together. Eric Clapton's guitar, Jack Bruce's bass and vocals, and Ginger Baker's drums treat the blues as a starting point for a much freer interplay. A riff can remain compact, but also grow into a longer conversation. The tension arises from the way the instruments continue to challenge one another.

Disraeli Gears and Wheels of Fire offer different entry points to that energy on vinyl. The live release from the Royal Albert Hall presents the trio from a different moment. Listen to the bass when the guitar solos: a distinct melodic line persists there. The offered tribute record is a tribute by other performers; it is not an original studio album by Cream.
