CLAIRO.

Clairo creates music in which a soft voice can take up a lot of space. The melody sometimes seems to emerge almost casually, but the accompaniment places small shifts precisely in their place. Guitar, keyboards, and rhythm form an environment in which a personal line can linger. The restraint is a way to get closer.

Sling and Charm reveal different colors within that approach on vinyl. Choose a LP and follow the instruments moving behind the vocals: a bass line or brief keyboard note can subtly shift the emotion. The songs become stronger when allowed to fade out for a moment. A full side of record gives weight to the quiet passages as well and demonstrates how carefully the albums are constructed as a whole.

A LP gives the music a beginning, a moment of rest when turning over, and an end. Therefore, listen to an entire side of the record. Which passage sticks in your mind when the familiar track is over? It is precisely the smaller transitions that can give an album a different character and reveal why you return to this artist.
