CALEXICO.

Calexico creates music in which a landscape becomes audible without being literally described. A trumpet can open up an empty horizon, after which guitar and drums fill the space again. Joey Burns and John Convertino connect the band sound with Latin American rhythms, folk, and the atmosphere of a film where you get to imagine the images yourself.

That combination makes their albums on vinyl inviting for a long listen. The color of the instruments changes from track to track, while a recognizable sense of space holds the record together. Sometimes the rhythm becomes light and dancing, sometimes a song seems to stand still for a moment. It is precisely then that you should keep listening to what is happening in the background.

A LP gives the music a beginning, a moment of rest when turning over, and an end. Therefore, listen to an entire side of the record. Which passage sticks in your mind when the familiar track is over? It is precisely the smaller transitions that can give an album a different character and reveal why you return to this artist.
